Employee Spotlight- Clark Cogan

baileywillett

Here at AMG, team culture is extremely important to us. We are FAMILY! Once a month, we will spotlight one of our gurus and give you an opportunity to see who you are currently working with or could be working with in the near future!

  • Favorite quote:  "Whenever I'm about to do something, I think, 'Would an idiot do that?' and if they would, I do not do that thing." — Dwight Schrute

  • What is something [people in your industry/niche] have to deal with that you want to fix? Attribution as a complete conceptual framework. In so many instances, I find that there is an unwinnable battle for favor between a variety of competing interests. All sides of this effort really need to come further toward the center of a discussion about interpretations, rather than asserting complete conclusions.  Veritasium has a great video on the Egocentric Bias that I think relates a lot here: https://youtu.be/3LopI4YeC4I?t=10

  • What do you do at AMG? I support dealerships as an extension of their marketing teams. I work for the dealership, and with their people/vendors to be selflessly proactive while accountable for outcomes, motivated toward success on all fronts saving time and money, and I do so with a genuine interest in positivity, loyalty, and while exerting high integrity through all of my actions, treating others as I wish to be treated.

  • What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position? I spent the past 5 years working for AutoSweet on the vendor side of the auto industry selling a variety of digital services including email, Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and Craigslist.  Prior to my time in automotive, I worked for a YEXT company selling and managing local SEO services including business data management. I credit this as being one of the first major experiences I have had in marketing, and sparked the love I have of marketing and technology! My first job at 14 was as a caddy at Muirfield Village Golf Club (tournament course), and I continued with this job until I was in my mid 20's. This was an excellent experience working with business leaders and their colleagues/clients to exemplify customer service at a very high level.

  • What do you like about working at AMG? I absolutely love the dynamic set of things I get to take part in every day, so much of which involves being a true consultative partner of a dealership. The ability to be a trusted partner is something that I have tried for in the past while selling digital services, and seen many companies attempt. AMG executes on this extremely well, and it has been very evident in the relationships I have participated in that are still in their first couple of months working with us!  Along with a dynamic set of daily tasks, the ability to hone skills which I find valuable is relatively open to what is needed day-over-day. Not only does this allow me to pursue learning which I find valuable or is needed, but there is a ton I am gaining every day in areas I would normally never be near in past roles. Things like dealer CRMs, DMS tools, Vendor discussions, etc. The ability to grow in so many areas within Automotive is priceless.

  • What are the values that drive you? I have been a team player since a small child playing sports, and that mentality has generally stuck with me. I like winning, but not without my squad!  I am a very ethically and philosophically driven person, at least in terms of things like the Golden Rule. I am always trying to better understand someone's viewpoint while minimizing my own bias. On this same thought, recognizing bias is very important, and a really useful thought on this is roughly "If you can't reasonably explain the other side of an argument or topic, you shouldn't have a strong opinion on the matter".

  • Your top 3 favorite Movies/TV Shows? Curb Your Enthusiasm, Letterkenny, any Dave Chappelle special.

  • What would be your dream vacation? I always say I want to visit Machu Picchu, and I definitely get a lot of existential satisfaction out of the grander views in this world like Mountains and the Ocean. But really, any relaxing time with my people and nothing too important to do. That's paradise

  • What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? I grew up playing sports and still enjoy being marginally competitive. Golf is a great game, and I still sometimes play hockey, but less and less. Fishing, Kayaking, Camping, all the outdoors stuff is awesome. I love video games but am currently in-between any major titles I am invested in. I currently play whatever my friends/family plays. I am a big TV show buff and have watched a LOT of comedy shows, standups, etc.
